Our furry friends can help in so many ways. They help us function in daily life by interrupting a PTSD moment, deescalating an anxiety attack, getting us out of the house as they give us courage to be in public. They pick up keys, open doors, get help when needed. The tasks they can help with is unlimited thereby, always being here to help us. Dog training is the foundation to creating this helping paw.
It is vital to know that you do have to have a documented diagnosis by a doctor in order to work with us. You must provide a letter from your primary care physician or psychiatrist that states you need a service dog and the disability must be diagnoses and part of your medical history.
There are many ways to train up a service dog. One is to pay $20,000 -$60,000 for a dog that was trained by an organization, which is never a guarantee. Owner trained, locally trained service dogs have become the viable option.
First, is you can do all the dog training with me coaching you every step of the way. Second, is a combination of you train and I do day training as well. Finally, I can do all the dog training through day training. Any path you choose we are here to help and support you.
In brief, the first step is we establish foundation behaviors. Second step is to take those foundation behaviors out into public and test them, CGC and leash walking test. The third step is polishing those behaviors so they perform them on cue every time, teaching tasks. The fourth step is the public access preparation and test as well as testing the tasks we have been teaching.
